MLA criticises Sacred Games 2 scene where Saif throws away his 'kada'

Bad news for American streaming service Netflix seems to be pouring in endlessly. Delhi MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who is a member of the Akali Dal, has slammed the video streaming platform for a scene in its latest Indian original Sacred Games 2 where lead character Saif Ali Khan throws away his ‘kada’ (a bangle that is a religious symbol for the Sikh community).

Sacred Games 2 director Anurag Kashyap too has come under the scanner. Sirsa is demanding removal of the scene from the series, and threatening legal action otherwise.

In a series of tweets, Sirsa urged Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar to take stern action against Netflix and the show which disrespects not just the Sikh community but Hindu religion as a whole.

Launched last Thursday, the much awaited second season of the crime thriller had found pirated videos circulating on messaging app Telegram and multiple websites on the Internet. This bad news is in addition to the criticism around its plot and character arcs.

Last year, the first season of Sacred Games had also raked up controversy where a bunch of Congress activists had hit out against the show for derogatory portrayal of ex-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Son Rahul Gandhi, however, had defended the show’s freedom of speech.

“My father lived and died in the service of India. The views of a character on a fictional web series can never change that,” Gandhi had tweeted.
