A police manhunt took a hilarious turn after their main suspect was identified – as a dead ringer for ‘Ross from Friends’.

Blackpool Police were looking for help to find a suspected thief when thousands of commenters spotted the David Schwimmer doppelganger.

More than 35,000 people commented on the post featuring CCTV from a shop in Blackpool.

The original post read: ‘Do you recognise this man? We want to speak to him in relation to a theft at a Blackpool restaurant on the 20th September.’

The video caused havoc online with fans seeking David’s reaction to the incident. The actor recreated the picture from the viral picture, lifting a similar box of beer and shared it online to clear his name. The actor wrote: “Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.”

Meanwhile, the Blackpool Police took to Facebook, where they shared the original post, and informed fans that they did reach out to David and ruled him out. “We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way,” their comment on the social media platform read.
