2019 marks 50 years since a talking Great Dane named Scooby-Doo and his mystery solving friends first became pop culture icons. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? first premiered on September 13th, 1969. And since then, Scoob and the gang have had multiple animated shows, and a pair of live-action theatrical films as well. But he’s never had his own animated movie, believe it or not. But that’s all about to change, as next summer Warner Brothers Animation is releasing Scoob!, an CGI animated big screen reboot of the iconic franchise. And in anticipation of the forthcoming trailer which is set to premiere soon, Warners Brothers has released the first four images from the film, via Fandango.
The last we heard about this movie there were some rumblings that Scoob! was going to be part of a new Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe. However, the movie has changed hands so many times at this point that that that might not be the case anymore. There have also been some rather large cinematic universe disasters since this was first floated in 2016 including the DC Extended Universe over at Warner Bros. It wouldn’t be that surprising if they decided to omit the cinematic universe part of this latest Scooby-Doo adaptation. For this new movie, voice acting legend Frank Welker returns as Scooby — the only original cast member to return. Although he is the original voice of Fred Jones, for the movie Zac Efron will play Fred. Gina Rodriguez will voice Velma Dinkley, and Amanda Seyfried will assay the role of Daphne Blake. And none other than Will Forte will voice Scooby’s BFF and fellow food-aholic, Shaggy.
