But did you know that this is not Katy’s first time in India? The singer visited a couple of places in India and interestingly, she met her ex-husband and actor Russell Brand here. The American pop diva is gearing up to perform for her fans over the weekend and Katty says that she wants to “indulge in all things Indian”. So, ahead of Katy Perry’s much-awaited concert, here is a look back at the singer’s connection to India.

1. Katy’s ex-husband Russell proposed her in front of Taj Mahal:

Although Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s marriage was only 14 months long, their togetherness was celebrated by many fans all across the globe. The former couple enjoyed every bit of romance, which first began when they met at a music award show that Russell hosted and Perry performed at. Nine months later, when the duo visited India, Russell proposed to Katy on New Year’s Eve in front of one of the wonders of the world, Taj Mahal.

2. Katy got married to Russell in Rajasthan:

The very next year after the couple tied the knot, they decided to hop on the bandwagon and the couple tied the knot in a lavish fashion in Rajasthan near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary. Inspired by the majestic countryside of northern India, the ceremony reportedly had 21 camels, elephants, and horses, which became a part of Russell’s wedding procession. It is believed that the comedian’s wedding gift to his ex-wife was Machli, one of Ranthambore’s rare female tiger.

Their reception was reportedly held at Taj Rambagh Palace, and the party is said to have an ‘East meets West’ theme. The lavish party supposedly also featured the performances of P Diddy and several other classical dancers.

3. Russell and Katy Perry’s matching tattoos in Sanskirt:

Rusell and Katy Perry’s ardent fans would know that after they got married in Rajasthan, the duo got matching tattoos on the inside of their respective right arms. The tattoo read Anuugacchati Pravaha which meant ‘go with the flow’.

4. Katy Perry performed in IPL 2012s’ opening ceremony:

The international pop artist came to India yet again for her show at the opening ceremony of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League in 2015. Stating that she was “honoured to play Chennai”, the diva enthralled the audiences with her hits like Fireworks and California Gurls.

Meanwhile, Katy recently opened up about her upcoming gig in Mumbai and said, “I am so happy to be returning to India and excited to headline my first-ever performance in Mumbai. I am looking forward to seeing and singing with all of my Indian KatyCats.” If reports are anything to go by, Karan Johar will be organising a cocktail and dinner party for the singer, where she would be interacting with most of the Bollywood celebs and eminent personalities.

The concert is scheduled for November 16 and the venue is Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.
